HISTORIC BUILDINGS EXPERIENCE

Prior to setting up his own practice, Mart worked on a number of prominent historic and Listed buildings, some of which are of national importance, including:

  • Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire (Grade 1 Listed) - Front Elevation Conservation (as seen on the James Bond film - Spectre)

  • Wrest Park, Bedfordshire (Grade I Listed) - Conservation and repair of Main Entrance Roof Lantern

  • Trinity Hall (College), Cambridge (Grade 1 Listed) - Additions to Elizabethan Library

  • The Senate House, Cambridge (Grade I Listed) - Adaptation for Accessibility

  • Keble College, Oxford (Grade II* Listed) - Conservation of 1970's Hayward and De Breyne Quads

  • Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxfordshire (Grade II* Listed) - New Guest Wing (for Raymond Blanc's Restaurant)

  • BBC Broadcasting House, London (Grade II* Listed) - Conversion of the Art Deco Concert Hall into the new BBC Radio Theatre

  • BBC Bush House, London (Grade II Listed) - Remodelling of the BBC World Service HQ Building

SUSTAINABILITY EXPERIENCE

Mart's work has been involved in sustainability and energy conservation for over 30 years having graduated in 1993 with a Postgraduate Diploma in Built Resource Studies (in addition to the Graduate Diploma in Architecture) which focused specifically on the reuse of existing buildings and conservation of their embodied energy, something which continues in his Practice's work through his membership of The Green Register of Construction Professionals. His work in this field has also been recognised by winning a number of awards in National Design Competitions.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE​

In addition to running his Practice, Mart has contributed to the education of the next generation of architects including the roles of:

  • External Critic: University of Cambridge Department of Architecture (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

  • CAA Educational Outreach: Chesterton Community College - Architectural Design Workshops (2019)

  • Visiting Architectural Design Tutor: CSVPA Cambridge (2012-2013)

CHARITABLE WORK​

As a professional member of the construction industry Mart has donated a considerable amount of his time and skills to helping further the advancement of architecture through the RIBA (as a Registered Charity) as well as helping those who face basic housing challenges and homelessness by participating in the RIBA/Shelter - Architect in the House scheme.
