MART BARRASS - FOUNDER / DIRECTOR

Elected a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1996, Mart has lived and worked in Cambridge for the past 25 years, establishing his own Practice in 2010 to focus on the design of innovative, intelligent and sustainable habitats.

His life experience of growing up on a hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales, studying in the historic city of Oxford and the planned city of Washington D.C., with a number of years working in London and the Alps, inform his outlook and insight into the challenges and benefits of both rural and urban living.

Mart served as Chair of the Cambridge Association of Architects (the local Chapter of the RIBA) and RIBA East Regional Council Member from 2020 - 2022 and has previously sat as the RIBA Representative on Cambridge City Council's Design & Conservation Review Panel as well as a Shortlisting Panel Member for RIBA East Awards and a visiting critic for the University  of Cambridge's Department of Architecture.

 

CONSULTANT TEAM

Every project is a collaboration of specialist knowledge and expertise. Over the last 10 years Mart Barrass Architect (ltd.) has developed a working network of external consultants that can be coordinated to work on each individual project as required. Most projects will require the input of a Structural Engineer and possibly a Cost Consultant, Planning Consultant and a Party Wall Surveyor if the proposed works are expected to affect the Party Wall or Boundary of the neighbouring properties. More complex projects like New-Build or Listed Properties or projects located in Conservation Areas may require a number of other specialists like Heritage Consultants, Energy Consultants and Ecologists.
