“The launch of UPM’s WISA®-TWIN Plywood has been a huge step forward for sustainable construction in the UK because the timber used to manufacture it comes from sustainable, well-managed, PEFC Certified Finnish plantation forests.”                                    Jewsons

Jewson, UK-based supplier of timber and building products, has been selected as the national distributor of WISA-TWIN plywood, the sustainable multi-purpose plywood product manufactured by Finland-based forest products company UPM and is sourced from Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified forests.

WISA-TWIN has a softwood spruce core and hardwood birch face and can be used in many applications as a direct replacement for tropical hardwood plywood. It is ideal for a wide range of construction activities including local authority and government projects plus joinery, shop fitting and furniture manufacture.

WISA Twin will help construction companies reduce the environmental impact of their activity, by not using traditional tropical hardwoods sourced from forests with sensitive ecosystems and endangered species of trees and wildlife.

It also cuts down the carbon footprint because less CO2 is produced during the manufacture and transport of WISA-TWIN than tropical hardwood plywood to the UK.

The very light colour of WISA-TWIN plywood offers significant technical benefits when compared to traditional plywood products. The product is easier to paint and stain and the softwood core is lighter than other plywood, while retaining all the structural and weather resistant features common to traditional ply

Announcing the distribution deal, James Pennington, Jewson’s supply manager panel products for WISA-TWIN said: “We are delighted to be working with WISA-TWIN and to be able to offer our customers this new product. I am sure it will be a great success added to our existing range of Chain of Custody timber products.”

He described the addition of the product to Jewson’s range as part of its strategy to be a “leading supplier of sustainable timber solutions [in the UK construction Industry]”.

Mira Popovic, Jewson’s Marketing Manager, says further information can be found on the Jewson You Tube channel:
